8.20. Adjustment of the hand brake

Models with back drum-type brakes

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Lift a back part of the car and fix on supports.
2. For check of adjustment of the hand brake completely release it. Several times press a brake pedal for installation of a normal working gap between brake shoes and a drum. Tighten the hand brake several times for the correct installation of the automatic mechanism of adjustment of the hand brake.
3. For check of correctness of adjustment of the hand brake tighten the lever of the hand brake against the stop and count number of clicks which should make 7. If the number of clicks differs from specified, it is necessary to make adjustment as follows.
4. Remove a protective casing of the hand brake from the central console and remove it, shifting on the lever of the hand brake for access to an adjusting nut.
5. Tighten the hand brake on 5 clicks and rotate an adjusting nut until back wheels of the car still will freely rotate.
6. Tighten the lever of the hand brake on 7 clicks and check that both back wheels are braked. If it is necessary, repeat adjustment process.
7. Establish a protective casing and lower the car.

Models with back disk brakes

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Lift a back part of the car and fix on supports.
2. Lower the lever of the hand brake, then tighten it on 7 clicks. Check that both back wheels are braked.
3. If adjustment is necessary, completely release the hand brake, remove a protective casing of the hand brake from the central console and remove it on the lever of the hand brake for access to an adjusting nut. Unscrew a nut by the end of a forward cable of the hand brake.
4. Remove both back wheels.
5. Turn a brake disk so that the opening in a disk was established opposite to an adjusting level. Insert a screw-driver through an opening of a brake disk and completely unclench brake shoes of the hand brake, rotating an adjusting ring.
6. After a full zatormazhivaniye of a disk brake shoes turn an adjusting ring in the opposite direction on 5–6 teeths therefore the brake disk should rotate freely. Repeat actions on adjustment of a gap of brake shoes on the second wheel.
7. In salon of the car screw up an adjusting nut on the lever of the hand brake (in drawing the nut arrangement is shown) and tighten the hand brake on 7 clicks. Check, back wheels are braked. If adjustment is necessary, release the hand brake and repeat adjustment, rotating an adjusting nut.
8. Establish back wheels, establish a protective casing of the lever of the hand brake and lower the car.
